Summary
This presentation will explore a collaborative project to develop a set of involvement principles for Alzheimer’s Society, a UK-based charity supporting people living with dementia and their families. Both the project and presentation have been co-produced by people with lived experience alongside staff from Alzheimer’s Society. Our purpose was to create a set of principles which would act as a guide for Alzheimer’s Society and our partners reminding everyone what good involvement looks like. This process resulted in the identification of 7 core principles that emphasise respect, inclusion, honesty, communication, trust and safety. We will discuss the challenges and successes of the co-production process, including celebrating how allowing time for, and having respectful, honest conversations can bring clarity to an organisation’s involvement activities. The project is ongoing, with group members continuing to be involved in embedding the principles across the organisation.
