I have been working as an assistant psychologist for nearly 3 years, with a keen interest with working with older adults, primarily with those who have been having difficulties coming to terms with their diagnosis of a dementia.
Summary
The ‘Dementia Support Journey’ is a brief psychological intervention designed to support individuals recently diagnosed with dementia. Delivered through one to three psychological sessions, it aims to provide a compassionate, person-centred space to explore emotional responses, normalise distress, offer psychoeducation and inform of potentially beneficial community spaces. It has been designed to provide support, enhance understanding of the diagnosis and empower people to take the next steps in their care journey. The intervention is new to the service and is offered to individuals who are felt to be experiencing significant distress following receiving a diagnosis of dementia.
The poster endeavours to detail the background context to the offer, the content of the sessions, and the process of its implementation. The poster also aims to detail the feedback and outcomes from the intervention, before describing the next steps.
