Summary
This case study will show how rehabilitation, specifically the use of GREAT-CR has a valuable role within Dementia care. It will highlight how through the use of enhanced learning strategies, an improvement in cognitive functioning can be achieved. Talking through the case study example will show how GREAT-CR begins with a SMART goal that is meaningful and important to the individual which supports practitioners to plan the enhanced learning techniques that enable goal orientation. The presentation will highlight how the use of SMART goals, therapeutic rapport and education when talking about strategies supports the individual’s and their care partners’ engagement and motivation to participate in the program. A key message of this presentation is that intervention and support for individuals and their care partners should be active not passive, and the GREAT-CR program provides a clear way to do this.
