World Alzheimer Report 2026 published by Alzheimer’s Disease International

This year’s World Alzheimer Report has been published by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI), entitled: ‘A new era in dementia clinical trials’.

The report combines evidence and lived experience – including through 45+ interviews with a range of individuals – to explore the topic of clinical trials, what they are and how they work, alongside looking at the challenges faced when designing and running clinical trials for dementia.

Key issues the report addresses include:

  • Recruitment participation and retention in clinical trials
  • The importance of global representation, diversification and inclusivity in dementia research
  • Why there needs to be greater awareness and understanding of clinical trials amongst medical practitioners.

Chris Lynch, Acting Chief Executive Officer*, Alzheimer’s Disease International, says:

“This report aligns with our current pivotal moment, one that can profoundly change the trajectory and response to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Never before has there been so much focus, investment, and hope in dementia research. For other highly stigmatised conditions, including cancer and HIV/AIDS, clinical trials underpinned revolutions in diagnostics and treatments that subsequently introduced hope, helped reduce stigma, and led to better awareness, screening, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and support. It is high time dementia has its own breakthrough.”
