Dave’s Legacy – improving dementia care

17 November, 2026 5:00 – 6:10 pmRethinking dementia care in acute hospitals
I am Vicky Brown. I am a wife, a mother and I have been a registered nurse since 2002. My interest in education and support for people living with dementia and those who love and support them was inspired by the journey of my father, Dave who lived with dementia and sadly passed away in October 2022. I have compiled a dementia training package and present both locally and nationally on the topic at NHS acute hospital trusts, hospices and universities and colleges. I have recently received the People’s Choice Award at the UK Dementia Community Awards.
Summary
Dave’s Legacy was born out of my personal and professional life colliding. I am a registered nurse, and my father, Dave, was living with dementia. Dave’s Legacy is a training package of two videos. The first video takes the viewer on a journey through my father’s care during the final stages of his life. The second video is designed to educate and empower healthcare professionals and carers of people with dementia by linking evidence based care together with how my Dad’s treatment could have been improved with the use of resources, available tools and guidelines and simple care. A question and answer session allows barriers to care to be discussed in an open forum.
Dave’s Legacy aims to ensure that all people living with dementia are treated as individuals, and with the care and respect they deserve.
