Summary

The Royal British Legion Admiral Nurse Service have been utilising the Adult Carer Quality of Life (ACQoL) measure to assess Carers’ perceptions of their caring role and provide Admiral Nurses with insight into interventions required and be able to evaluate their impact by comparing baseline to subsequent periodic repeating of the measure.
Feedback from Carers highlighted that their experience of completing the quality of life questionnaire (ACQoL) was burdensome, difficult to understand and apply to their caring situation. Similarly, Admiral Nurses reported the ACQoL to be time consuming to complete and ineffective in providing meaningful, clinical data to both inform care planning and measure impact of Admiral Nurse intervention. The RBL Admiral Nurse Service consequently identified the need for an improved method to better understand the needs of those they serve.
