Summary
Attending hospital appointments can be more difficult for people living with dementia and those who support them. We have undertaken research in hospital departments with people living with dementia, their supporters and hospital staff to understand what is difficult about hospital appointments for people with dementia, and what can help.
We have used the findings of the research to design a toolkit to help staff support people with dementia and their families at hospital appointments. We worked with people with lived experience of dementia and hospital staff to develop the toolkit together.
We are currently testing the toolkit out in hospital departments. During our presentation, we will share details of the toolkit, and what we have learnt from testing it out so far.
