Summary
The workshop is a participatory discussion to develop recommendations that ensure co-production and creative involvement are at the core of dementia support and service development rather than afterthought grafted on as an institutional tickbox requirement at the end. Led by David Truswell and Ronald Amanze from Culture Dementia UK and Dementia in Dub, the discussion uses their experience as the starting point for a sandbox-style exploration with participants of the psychological and emotional benefits of creativity and co-production for people living with dementia and those close to them. Institutional deconstructions are highlighted as possible corporate models for rethinking these issues. Framing their own learning experience within the myth-making narrative of developing a training programme for future Afronauts to explore the strange new world of dementia, Ronald and David invite participants to share their learning, dreams, broken toys, and laughter and tears before bedtime.
