Summary
Dementia Forward (DF), a charitable organisation based in North Yorkshire, has developed specific services for people with young onset dementia. To date, they have crafted a bespoke approach that includes financial and legal advice, different benefits, family support involving children. The service currently supports 4233 people living with dementia that includes 274 people living with young onset dementia (6.46% of workload). In addition to launching a national campaign to promote service development, awareness and research for people with young onset dementia, Dementia Forward have a 10 year plan to create a voice for those living with young onsent dementia.
As part of this plan, Dementia Forward and Leeds Beckett University have been awarded a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), part-funded by UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) through Innovate UK. The KTP will develop a blueprint for young onset services that will explore and provide evidence for best practice models for pre and postdiagnostic support. We present the plan for informing this blueprint and key findings to date.
