Summary
Our brains constantly scan our environment looking for signs of safety or threat, the welcoming smile of a friend or a shadow in the corner of our vision. In the field of arts these meaningful momentary experiences are known as aesthetic, and they impact how we engage with and respond to the world and people around us. However, despite being intrinsic to everyday life, there has been little research into how these experiences impact our health and wellbeing. A recent study be Fox et al shows how such experiences support people living with dementia to feel connected with their identity and safe in their environments.
In this workshop we will hold space for attendees to discuss their own experiences of dementia through the lens of their personal meaningful moments. We will use these experiences to support attendees to create their own personal narratives which point to their unique aesthetic needs.
