Sponge

Entry ID: 17664

Unpaid/family carer

This Art Photography piece is titled 'Sponge'. An oversaturated sponge needs squeezing, and hence, an ultimate emptiness. 'Sponge', my artwork, precisely addresses this paradox between being (or embracing) too much, to holding nothing eventually; and the stages of this process of getting drained along the spectrum.

Look Deeper

Entry ID: 17435

Person living with dementia

At a first glance this piece looks so calming.
My protector stands with red flowing scarf, watching over me as I gently navigate the calm waters.
Look closely there is a third person! Could that be Dementia? Is my sidekick waiting in the wings to disrupt the calmness

Celebrating Dementia Friendly Alton Assembly Rooms at Christmas

Entry ID: 17329

Unpaid/family carer

This painting was co-produced by a father with dementia and his daughter. The subject: Celebrating the first Christmas of Alton Assembly Rooms being home to Dementia Friendly Alton. An iconic and familiar building and a service therein which has grown from strength to strength since relocating right into the heart of the town. Contiguous with this conference this painting was used by the Mayor of Alton for the design of the 2024 Town Hall Christmas Card, thus promoting the great value of art and dementia and the amazing service we have locally. It was also a personal privilege for this father and daughter relationship which has, for 50 years, been most richly united by a joint love of art and what a joy that this continues to flourish within their lives living well with dementia.

Eve’s Spring Gift

Entry ID: 16991

Person living with dementia

This is a work by Eveline Flint. She is a residents at Bryn Seiont Newydd dementia care home in Caernarfon, North Wales - which is part of Pendine Park Care.
Eve's painting was done as part of an intergenerational art project with local primary school children, where the children and a few residents were involved in a still life art session. Eve has always been very artistic and has created marvelous artwork over the years. It is good that these skills are preserved in Eve despite her dementia.
I work in Bryn Seiont Newydd as an Enrichment Co-ordinator and as I lead these intergenerational art sessions and as Eve does not have an email address, I am entering this artwork on her behalf. (Eve would be available to talk over the phone or through zoom on her artwork if needed.)

Fading to White

Entry ID: 17029

Unpaid/family carer

The painting symbolizes the final stage of dementia, where the figure is obscured, representing the loss of verbal and physical abilities. The muted background and blank flowers reflect fading memory and identity. Yet, their form hints at the enduring essence of the person, despite profound loss and sadness.
