Summary
Persistent inequalities continue to prevent many people with dementia from living well or having a voice in research and care. The EMPOWER Dementia Network+ connected people affected by dementia, carers, researchers, and community organisations to co-produce a bold vision for excellent and inclusive dementia care. Through a series of creative, co-designed workshops involving over 130 participants across the UK, we worked with community organisations to co-produce this vision with underserved groups. Using metaphors like trees, gardens, and compost heaps, participants identified values, tools, and barriers to highlight what excellent dementia care looks like and how it may best be realised. This work highlights how creative, community-led co-production can meaningfully involve diverse voices in shaping care and research priorities. Our approach offers a practical and grassroots model for others seeking to build inclusion and equity into dementia care and policy from the ground up.
