Alzheimer’s Society partner with the British Deaf Association to improve dementia support for the deaf community
Alzheimer’s Society has partnered with the British Deaf Association to improve dementia information, awareness and support for the deaf community.
A SignVideo option is now available on the Alzheimer’s Society’s website to make the Society’s Dementia Support Line more accessible to deaf people. SignVideo links a deaf person with a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter who can live translate information from the Support Line team. Find this feature, and other translation services that support the accessibility of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Support Line, here: https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/accessible-options
Alzheimer’s Society are also planning on running deaf awareness sessions for their Dementia Advisers and continuing to create advice videos using British Sign Language. Rebecca Mansell, Chief Executive Officer of the British Deaf Association (BDA), says:
“We are proud to partner with Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness of dementia within the Deaf community and ensure vital information is accessible in British Sign Language (BSL). This important partnership aims to build a strong bridge between Alzheimer’s Society and the Deaf community – improving access to information, support, and understanding of dementia.”
