Study shows benefits of ‘Musical Museum’
A study published by Frontiers in Neurology has shown how ‘Musical Museum’ concerts help to improve emotional wellbeing, cognitive stimulation and social isolation for people with dementia.
Researchers at Northwestern University in Chicago evaluated the ‘Musical Museum’ concert series – developed by the Northwestern Music and Medicine Program (NMMP) in Chicago – which combines live music performances with short talks explaining the music, question-and-answer sessions and informal receptions where attendees can socialise.
The study documents how participants in the ‘Musical Museum’ programme consistently reported improved mood after attending the sessions, rating the programme highly for enjoyment, intellectual stimulation and overall satisfaction.
