Alzheimer’s Society publish data showing majority of adults in England want dementia to be a national healthcare priority
The Alzheimer’s Society has published data from a survey of more than 1,000 adults across England that shows demand for dementia to be made a national healthcare priority is high with 81% of those surveyed wanting this.
Currently England doesn’t have a National Dementia Strategy (the last strategy was published in February 2009 and followed by the Prime Minister’s Dementia Challenges in 2012/2015 and 2020), and the Modern Service Framework for Dementia and Frailty isn’t due to be published until the end of 2026.
Alongside the data, Alzheimer’s Society have outlined five urgent actions they want the government to commit to:
• Put dementia at the heart of government policy
• Guarantee a maximum 18-week wait from referral to diagnosis
• Use the Modern Service Framework for Dementia and Frailty as an opportunity to prepare for new treatments, improve post diagnostic support and reduce deaths from dementia
• Appoint a dedicated Dementia Tsar
• Work cohesively with the leaders of the UK’s three leading dementia charities.
