Children’s detective novel themed around dementia published by Tiny Tree Books
‘Scarlett Buckling and the Case of the Missing Pictures’ has been published by Tiny Tree Books.
Informed by the lived experience of people with dementia, as well as family members and dementia professionals, it is aimed at readers aged 10-12 years and described as, ‘Exploring themes of dementia within the trappings of a classic detective novel’.
Author Mario Ambrosi, who works for care and housing provider Anchor as Director of Communications and Marketing, says of his inspiration for the novel:
“My uncle lived with dementia, and it affects so many families but can be difficult to talk about. I have two kids of my own and wanted to help them feel comfortable asking questions. I’ve always been amazed at how key facts about someone’s life can be the clues that help care professionals provide the best care possible. A detective story seemed the obvious way to talk about it for children. I wanted to show the massive difference that people who work in social care make and, hopefully, inspire the next generation.”
The book has been praised by former Education Secretary Lord Kenneth Baker who says:
“I loved meeting the dementia detectives Scarlett and Bournemouth. It is important children learn about dementia, and this sensitive story will help children and adults alike.”
To bring the book to a wider audience, ‘Scarlett Buckling and the Case of the Missing Pictures’ is the focus of a World Alzheimer’s Month gifting imitative that EF-group – a procurement and menu management software provider for the care, senior living, and education sectors – has launched with Anchor to provide copies of the book to schools within its education client network.
Gemma Spilling, Marketing Manager at EF-group, says:
“We’re proud to support our clients on initiatives that matter. Working with Anchor to promote understanding of dementia through storytelling is exactly the kind of project we love to help make happen.”
