The Casey Commission launch ‘The Big Conversation on Care’

Baroness Casey, alongside Prime Minister Andy Burnham, has launched ‘The Big Conversation on Care’.

Described as ‘the most ambitious public conversation in a generation, handing the public a direct role in shaping the future of adult social care in England,’ The Big Conversation is for anyone living in England to say what they want and expect from a future National Care Service, including:

  • Who a National Care Service should support
  • What care families should be expected to provide
  • How care in England should be paid for in a fair and sustainable way.

The Big Conversation is aiming to engage with one million people and will run in two phases.

  • July to November 2026 will ask people about the values and principles they expect from a care system and who should be eligible for support.
  • The second phase will focus on how care should be funded and how reform should be delivered.

The Big Conversation will conclude by April 2027. Recommendations from The Casey Commission will be published by Summer 2027.
