Dementia NI has collaborated with contemporary choir ‘Rock Choir’ to launch a cover version of the Miley Cyrus hit ‘The Climb’.
A video has been released that was filmed during recording of the song at the Belfast campus of Ulster University. It stars Dementia NI members and Rock Choir members performing alongside Rock Choir Leader Rachel Coulter, and includes interviews with Dementia NI members.
Martin Murtagh, who is living with dementia and was part of this collaboration, says:
“Even though I have family members with Alzheimer’s, you just never think it will happen to you. It’s been a long process but taking part in things like the choir has been absolutely brilliant. I knew after the first rehearsal that I wanted to be a part of it all – I’m a big believer that music is medicine. We chose Miley Cyrus’s The Climb because it is a powerful representation of the struggle of dementia and coming out the other end stronger.”
