Duncan Goodwin, who lives with dementia, performs in the final of Channel 4’s ‘The Piano’

Duncan Goodwin, 81, from Harrogate, has played in the final of Channel 4’s The Piano, playing an original piece – Theme for Fran, dedicated to his wife of 40 years.

Duncan told The Piano viewers that he had been playing the piano since the age of four, and wrote Theme for Fran to show his dedication to his wife after being diagnosed with dementia two years ago.

Duncan and Fran are now raising money for the North Yorkshire-based charity Dementia Forward through Duncan’s blossoming diary of gigs – he will play at the Wesley Chapel in Oxford Street, Harrogate, on 3 August.
