Forget-me-not badges

A new blog on Alzheimer’s Society’s website is an apt reminder of an important symbol of remembrance – the blue flower badges that the charity promotes as representing the dementia cause.  The forget-me-not pin badges are worn by people in support of the charity or to raise awareness, often because a loved one has dementia. “It is a common misconception that the badges are to help identify people living with dementia in public,” the blog says.

“People living with dementia can sometimes face stigma and exploitation, which may put them at risk when out in public. If there’s the misconception that only people with dementia wear this badge, this could increase the risk of making them vulnerable.”
