Free book is plea for informal carers

Retired university professor Rex Last is offering a free download of his book “The informal Dementia Carer – who cares?” which is described as a “hard-hitting defence” of the informal carer. Professor Last’s wife, who died in July, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s which developed into dementia.  He says the book is a plea from a carer for much more to be done to support people in informal caring roles, particularly those new to the role, but also because “we blunder into the role unaware of all the pitfalls and bumps in the road ahead.”  The author also argues that carers should not be left “twisting in the wind” when a loved one goes into a care home.  To download the book free of charge, go to www.locheesoft.com and click on the book cover.
