Get your blood pressure checked, NHS campaign urges

The NHS are advising all over 40s to get their blood pressure checked to detect the ‘silent killer’ of high blood pressure (hypertension).

Hypertension often has no symptoms but, if left untreated, can lead to fatal heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease and vascular dementia. It is believed that a third of cases of high blood pressure are undiagnosed, putting 4.2 million people in England alone at risk.

Free checks are available at many local pharmacies and GP surgeries.
