Resources shared to support dementia diagnosis meetings

Researchers from the University of Bristol and people living with dementia and mild cognitive impairment have co-produced communication guidance videos for patients, family members and clinicians who are involved in dementia diagnosis feedback meetings.

The promotion for these resources says:

“Memory diagnosis meetings can be a difficult space for interaction, for both clinicians and patients. Being given unclear information can cause anxiety and stress. There is little guidance for delivering or receiving a diagnosis based on what happens in practice, which takes into account perspectives of clinicians, companions and people with dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment.”

To address these challenges, the following resources have been created:

‘What to expect at a diagnosis meeting about your memory: A guide for patients and friends or family’ https://youtu.be/b3HS3U5oWMg?si=uDZNQen8i4Csx5o1

‘Communication tips for clinicians in a memory diagnosis meeting’ https://youtu.be/V80Fl5GMnSA?si=hRrNaeVExX8YGtaK

There is also a film about The WREN framework. WREN stands for:

  • Why are we here
  • Results and Reasoning
  • Engage
  • Next Steps
