Toolkit about dementia created for children aged 9+

A toolkit has been created for children aged nine and above who have a family member with dementia or who are curious about dementia and interested in how they can help.

Entitled ‘Youth in Action – A Toolkit for Young Dementia Supporters’, the resource was co-designed by a team including people living with dementia, care partners, young people and researchers. The development was led by the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (MAREP) at the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) and the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.

The toolkit aims to help children:

  • Learn more about dementia
  • Share what they know about dementia
  • Challenge misunderstandings about dementia
  • Not feel scared to talk about dementia or talk to people who have dementia
  • Hear stories from others
  • Become Dementia Supporters

You can access the Toolkit here: https://youngdementianetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Youth-in-Action-for-Young-Dementia-Supporters.pdf
