Carers UK celebrating their 60th year in 2025

Carers UK has begun celebrating and reflecting on their 60 years of campaigning for unpaid carers under the theme of ‘Equality: today and tomorrow’.

Carers UK’s history goes back to 1965, when Rev Mary Webster founded the first ever national unpaid carers organisation to raise awareness of women who were ignored and invisible whilst caring for older relatives. Carers UK has gone on to lead key campaigns over the years that have helped to improve carers’ rights.

Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, says:

“We are using our 60th anniversary year to put unpaid carers in the spotlight, to continue our drive to campaign for lasting change, focusing on what we need to do to create greater equality, support and recognition for carers in the future.”
