Participants living with dementia wanted for domestic garden research
David Dobson, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of York, is looking for participants for his research into the role of domestic gardens in the lives of people living with dementia, their families and wider support networks.
To participate you should be living with dementia in Yorkshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester or Merseyside and located in a private residence with access to a garden or other outdoor space (‘garden’ includes balconies, window boxes, yards and terraces, as well as traditional garden spaces). You don’t need to be an active gardener to take part as this research is looking to represent a wide range of experiences.
Participants will be visited 4 times over a 12-month period, with fieldwork continuing until spring 2026. The purpose of the research is to develop resources and prompts to help professionals facilitate conversations when designing dementia accessible outdoor spaces, and for people who transition from home to a care home to be supported to maintain their garden histories.
