UK Government letter to Baroness Casey references dementia
The UK Government has sent a letter to Baroness Casey to update her on progress with her adult social care reform recommendations, including her call for urgent action on dementia care (which we reported on here: https://journalofdementiacare.co.uk/baroness-casey-speech-highlights-urgent-need-for-reform-of-dementia-care).
The letter from the Department of Health and Social Care updated Baroness Casey on the progress that has been made against her recommendations. On dementia, the letter includes mentions for:
• The modern service framework for dementia and frailty, to be published by the end of 2026
• Recruitment of a new Dementia Tsar
• Scaling up participation in UK dementia trials
• Collaboration with NICE to assess funding for two Alzheimer’s drugs (lecanemab and donanemab)
The letter also provides updates on government work around safeguarding and motor neurone disease.
