Coaching scheme

Among many local care sector initiatives launched during Dementia Action Week is Brunelcare’s dementia coaching scheme.  The Bristol-based charity says the initiative allows staff to take part in a learning and development programme to deliver personalised outcomes for people living with dementia.

Nine care staff have already taken part in the FITS programme – Focussed intervention and Support into Practice – which is taught by Brunelcare dementia care lead Stuart Wright and was developed by Worcester University’s Association for Dementia Studies.

“The role of the dementia coach is to deliver ‘on the job’ learning and development that immediately has an impact on the quality of care and life for residents,” Wright said.
