Lived experience advisors wanted for research into dementia and psychosis

University of Manchester PHD student Kate Stalker is looking for lived experience advisors for her research project into dementia and psychosis.

Kate’s research focuses on understanding the care needs and care pathways of people living with dementia and psychosis. The project will include a review of existing evidence and interviews, and there is a strong commitment to involving people with lived experience throughout the research which is currently at the early (systematic review) stage.

Kate wants to form a small lived experience advisory group (PPIE group). Being part of this group would involve:

  • Attending around 3–4 one-hour meetings per year (online or in person) over a four-year period, with an estimated total of 12–16 meetings (there is no expectation to attend every meeting).
  • Payment of £25 per activity, with additional compensation for any work completed outside meetings (for example, reviewing materials).

Meetings will focus on:

  • Advising which areas are most important to consider within the research.
  • Supporting the design of participant recruitment and research materials.
  • Helping shape later stages of the research, including how findings are shared so they reach the right people.
  • Co-designing future stages of the research beyond the initial review phase.

The first meeting is hoped to take place in February, with dates arranged to suit availability. One-to-one meetings can also be offered if group meetings are not suitable.
