Music for Dementia partner with Care Home Open Week 2025

Championing Social Care’s Care Home Open Week, which runs from 16-22 June 2025, is following a ‘Power of Music’ theme after partnering with The Utley Foundation’s Music for Dementia campaign.

Care Home Open Week, described as an annual community engagement event, aims to shine a positive light on the work of the care sector by encouraging care homes across the UK to open their doors to the public and showcase what they offer.

The partnership between Care Home Open Week and Music for Dementia will provide a range of joint initiatives including:

  • A Music for Dementia activity pack that includes a mini newspaper packed with inclusive musical activities designed to help care staff use music as part of their support.
  • A music quiz with downloadable resources including picture rounds, music clips and musical bingo.
  • Free sing-a-long sessions running three times a day on m4dRadio.com, Music for Dementia’s free online radio station.

Sarah Metcalfe, Managing Director at Music for Dementia, says:

“Music for Dementia has long admired the spirit and ethos of Championing Social Care and its Care Home Open Week event. Its mission feels closely aligned with our own ambition to make music an integral part of dementia care, as a way to support care staff deliver person-centred care and build strong communities within care homes.

Music can bring a care home alive, and it’s why we’re investing time and resources to educate and inspire the professional care sector to give it a go. Music can manage stress and agitation, spark memories and create moments of joy. For care staff, switching on the radio or having a sing-a-long are simple ways to lift resident’s moods and make day to day tasks a bit easier.”
