Jill Manthorpe, professor of social work at King’s College London and member of JDC’s editorial advisory board, has been awarded a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours. Professor Manthorpe, who has made a major contribution to dementia care research, said the honour recognised the fact that social care and social work research had “come of age”. She added: “When I started research on dementia care this was by no means a popular area and there was limited funding. Great thanks are due to those on the frontline of care and people living with dementia and carers for making our research possible. And JDC has played a huge part in bringing together researchers and practitioners to share ideas and learning so many thanks to everyone here also.”
