Dementia care to meet the needs of a wide range of ethnic groups is the focus of a new guide from NHS England. Titled Intercultural dementia care: A guide for health and care workers and written in collaboration with Alzheimer Europe, it draws on the experience and knowledge of experts and builds on previous reports by those with direct experience of providing dementia care to people from many different ethnic communities. One of the issues taken up in the guide is how to reach people with dementia and carers who need support and care. “Research and various surveys have shown that people with dementia and their relatives from minority ethnic groups do not use healthcare services, such as daycare, home care and respite care, to the same extent as others,” it says.
