New government minister for social care appointed 

Stephen Kinnock has been appointed as the new Minister of State for Care in the Department of Health and Social Care. Mr Kinnock’s responsibilities are listed here: https://www.gov.uk/government/people/stephen-kinnock, include dementia. 

Mr Kinnock is the Labour MP for Aberafan Maesteg in Wales and has experience of dementia – his mother, the former minister, peer and MEP Glenys Kinnock, died of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2023. 

The other new ministers in the Department of Health and Social Care are Wes Streeting MP (Secretary of State for Health and Social Care), Karin Smyth MP (Minister of State for Health – Secondary Care), Andrew Gwynne MP (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Public Health and Prevention) and Baroness Merron (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Patient Safety, Women’s Health and Mental Health).
