Lead dementia research nurse talks about her passion for beating dementia

Laura Rooney, Lead Dementia Research Nurse for the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Research Nurse Programme for England, Wales and Northern Ireland has written about her aspirations for her new role, utilising her experiences as a cancer research nurse.

Laura told Nursing Times https://www.nursingtimes.net/opinion/research-will-beat-dementia-but-we-need-to-make-it-a-reality-sooner-03-07-2024/

“Dementia research is sadly far behind stroke and cancer, but these two disease areas have made huge strides in the past decade and we can get there in dementia too. Research will beat dementia but we need to make it a reality sooner – through more funding, more partnership working, and more people taking part in research.”

The Dementia Research Nurse Programme is a £3m project which will embed 10 dedicated dementia research nurses into NHS settings to accelerate participation in research studies.
